Ghost in the Glass

“Ghost in the Glass” is a single by Saskatoon-based independent artist Andrea An, blending cinematic pop with alternative rock. It is from her upcoming concept album, Pendulum, which explores different stages and experiences of grief.

“Ghost in the Glass” was inspired by the loss of my mother in 2024 and the complicated way grief can change how you see yourself. After losing her, I started recognizing pieces of her in me—in the way I speak, the strength I carry, and the person I’ve become. The idea behind the “ghost in the glass” is that when you look in the mirror after losing someone who shaped so much of who you are, sometimes it can feel like you’re seeing them looking back at you. They may no longer be physically here, but parts of them continue to live on through us. The song explores that tension between missing someone deeply and slowly realizing that they haven’t completely disappeared. In a way, carrying pieces of them forward becomes part of learning how to live with the loss.
